Falmouth 29-15 Chard

Falmouth emerged 29-15 victors against Somerset side Chard making it now four wins from four for the Eagles in the Tribute Western Counties West Division.

An early try from Tom Spiller and a superb hat trick from Tom Edmonds gave Falmouth the victory.

Chard fought back in the second half with tries from David Biss and Max Gosden however it was not enough to complete a comeback.

Falmouth took the lead just after the quarter hour mark when Simon Bailey’s superb step and fend plunged a hole through the Chard defence, before he offloaded to the onrushing Spiller who scored under the posts. After Justyn Irons converted the score read 7-0.

Falmouth doubled their lead in the 30th minute when Edmonds intercepted a loose pass from the Chard inside centre and the Falmouth centre charged home to score just under the posts. Again Irons coolly converted to make it 14-0.

It got better for Falmouth only four minutes later, Edmonds again with a superb run from his own 22 after plunging a hole in the Chard backline and beating the away side fullback for pace and scoring to the right of the posts. Irons kept his 100 percent conversion record for the game and made it 21-0.

After the break Chard came out fighting, and were rewarded for their pressure when David Biss crashed over the line after several phases close to Falmouth’s line. Ryan Wingate’s successful conversion added the extra two points at 21-7.

Wingate then added another three points for Chard from a penalty in the 68th minute of play to make it 21-10.

But Falmouth hit back only six minutes later after a superb offload from Tom Simmons fond the on-rushing Edmonds to collect his hat trick and make it 26-10 after Irons’ failed conversion.

Two minutes from time and Irons added a further three points from a penalty which barely crept over the bar adding to the score at 28-10.

Chard had one final say and it was number eight Gosden who crashed over the line right under the posts in the 80th minute which finished off the scoring at 29-15.
