Good day to you all and welcome to the first of our regular update briefs that we will endeavour to send out at least every couple of months if not more frequently.
You may ask ‘why is John doing this?’ It’s simple: there has been much talk of ‘lack of communication’ from the ‘Committee’ so this is one of the ways we are trying to correct this. There is however, a however!
As with everything within the Club this news is brought to you by ‘volunteers’ so may I firstly thank those who have written it but also ask that if you have something you would like to ‘communicate’ (and its legal and clean!) please contact either Jon Baglow (our Honorary Sec) or myself or be prepared to be volunteered!
So, from a management side what has happened since the season began - loads!
- There has been much work in the background to ensure we have Tregenver as a playing surface. Here we have been successful, and we have built a great new working relationship with Falmouth School; they are now much more community focused and supportive.
- We’ve also conducted numerous meeting with sponsors, the Café is targeting audiences and we conducted the RFU Accreditation application for which we await the results.
- In the background the normal committee meetings have taken place and we are all set for the season. We’ve even started to look at the end of season Dinner which we plan to hold at the Castle again after such a grand event last year!
- I’ve also started looking at the boring stuff as well and have started to draft a new ‘Falmouth RFC Vision Statement’ and various policies the RFU want us to hold, more to follow during the planned ‘Vision Statement’ open meeting to come late this month.
- I’ve taken the liberty to repeat elements of my ‘View from the Chairman’ in our Club book and here they are!
I simply want to ensure that the Club maintains the family feeling of home to all our players (both adult and Mini & Juniors), supporters, volunteers, sponsors and those not connected to rugby. My message here is simple: Treat others as you would wish to be treated yourself. If we all use Rugby’s core values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship it will be easy. I hope you agree that it is our collective responsibility: Feel at home in your Club and welcome visitors.
While I’m on the subject of focus, we have but one - to continue playing Rugby at all ages, at all levels - that is why this Club has existed for 146 years and I beseech that we collectively remember that must always be our focus.
The running of any rugby club requires a great deal of resource with expenses including pitch maintenance, coaching, playing/training kit, referees fees, transport, food, etc, etc, etc. These items, and more, are funded through memberships, events held in our clubhouse and from our excellent sponsors and advertisers. I would like to thank all our sponsors and advertisers for their support over the years and, hopefully, into the future and, at the same time encourage all our members to use their services when appropriate. Likewise, if you have an idea of how we can raise further funds my ears will be open to you.
A big thank you to all those involved in the Club; without players there would be no Club, please enjoy your rugby; without the volunteers, the Club could not function, you are the heart please keep it beating; the Coaches, Clubhouse & Ground staff and those involved on the ‘pitch’ in rugby, without you we would have no facilities or be as successful, you are our frontline, keep fighting - thank you all.
I look forward to meeting/seeing you all soon and my humble apologies for another long article!
The future’s bright, the future’s Black & White – I wish all our Teams a successful, enjoyable and fun packed season.
As ever,
John Bullock
Chairman
Falmouth RFC
