Falmouth lost out 33-10 against league leaders Devonport Services in a hard-fought contest in the Tribute Western Counties West Division.
Devonport took control early on with 26 of their 33 points scored in the first 25 minutes, picking up a bonus point in the process.
Justyn Irons scored all 10 of Falmouth’s points who now sit in 10th position with Devonport two points clear at the top of the table.
Devonport started the game well scoring in the second minute after a strong run from Max Venables who took the home side close to the line before the ball came loose, but the Devonport winger Ben Wadham collected and dived over the line. Richard West converted to make it 7-0.
Only two minutes later and Falmouth found themselves down to 14 after a harsh call saw wing Mark Lea sent to the bin for a deliberate knock-on.
The call proved costly as Devonport doubled their tally soon after through Wadham, again after a pass from fly-half West found the Eagles exposed out wide. West missed the conversion and the score stayed at 12-0.
After returning to full strength, Falmouth put their own points on the board through a Justyn Irons penalty in the 16th minute to make it 12-3.
However, Devonport were soon back in the ascendency when Toby Knowles skipped through the Falmouth back line to score under the posts a minute later and after the conversion the scored read 19-3.
The home-side scored again in 24th minute through a great team try which allowed the Devonport prop to crash over the line and again West converted to take the scores to 26-3.
Not long after the restart, Devonport put themselves further ahead when Matt Gregory stumbled through a Falmouth tackle and managed to stay on his feet to score under the posts, which made it easy for West to convert to make the score 33-3.
The Eagles did manage to bring one back in the 61st minute after Irons’ strong tackle disarmed West of the ball before his kick and chase took him over the line. Irons converted to make the score 33-10.
Devonport saw themselves go two down late on in the last quarter however Falmouth could not take advantage and the scores stayed at 33-10.
