Dear Players

Welcome to the start of the 2017-2018 season at Falmouth Rugby Club. Following on from the strong foundation built on last season’s exceptional Cornwall & Devon League winning campaign, this year promises to be a challenging one for all players and coaches as we join a number of very ambitious and established clubs from Cornwall, Devon and Somerset in the Western Counties League.

Training started in early July and will continue throughout the season on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7.15-8.45pm. We work hard for up to 90 minutes with the emphasis on game play, based around attacking and defensive team play, fitness and technical skills. Our aim is to make the sessions varied, enjoyable and inclusive and all current and new players are warmly encouraged to attend.

We have pre-season matches for the 1st XV on Wednesday 16 August against Lanner at home (6.30pm KO) and Wednesday 23 August against Hayle away (7.15pm KO) before the league season begins as we host St Ives on Saturday 2 September

We cannot go into this season being anything but totally prepared and confident in our ability to perform well. We continue to build a strong squad with exciting and talented players, but we are all acutely aware of the challenges awaiting us in this highly competitive league. Last season proved that we are capable of playing rugby of an exceptional quality and our challenge is to be even better in every aspect of our game. We all know that to achieve our potential we must commit strongly to training and availability for matches on a regular basis.

The great strength of our campaign in 2016-17 was without doubt the strong bond and positive culture established between the players and for the side to be successful this year we will once again need an individual and collective effort and a strong sense of team unity and spirit that comes from a group of honest, committed, resilient and respectful players and coaches.

To this end we hope that you can manage to organise your diaries to be available for fixtures throughout the campaign. Please note that any 'free' dates, particularly in the second half of the league season are likely to be filled with cup and rearranged league fixtures.

We really look forward to seeing current and prospective 1st XV and 2nd XV players commit to training as we prepare to engage in what we hope will be the start of a most fruitful season for Falmouth Rugby Club.
