Truro managed to pull off a hard-fought victory against local rivals Falmouth despite being down to 14 on four separate occasions.

Truro took an early lead in horrid and muddy conditions but found themselves pegged back for the first half after going down to 14 men three times.

However two tries from Ethan Pattison saw Truro pick up the victory points and move ahead of Falmouth in the league.

Truro had the first say in the match after they scored in the 10 th minute through Captain Jack Heazlton after he tumbled over the line after picking from the back of the scrum. And after the completed conversion the scores read 7-0.

After this came a flurry of yellow cards first Luke Trescothick was sent to the bin in the 20th minute before Darren Jaques in the 30th and Vinson following in the 39th. And with Vinson off the field The Eagles took advantage when Tom Simmons slid in to score Falmouth’s first try on the stroke of halftime before Justyn Irons converted against his former club to level the scores at 7-7.

Ten Minutes after the break and Truro were back in the lead at 14-7 after being awarded a penalty try as a result of their pack’s sheer strength and domination in the scrum.

It got better for Truro in the 61 st minute when the Truro fly-half popped the ball to the onrushing Pattison who stepped through the Falmouth defence at pace to score in the corner. The conversion was made which took the score to 21-7.

Truro saw themselves go down to 14 yet again when Ollie Seagrove was shown a yellow for dissent in the 69 th minute.

With the extra man the Eagles saw their opportunity to get back into the game and took it, when Mike Austin’s superb kick over the away defence saw him collect and dive just left of the posts before Irons again converted to make it 21-14 with only five minutes left.

But any Falmouth comeback was quelled when Pattison collected his second try of the game right on the final whistle and after the kick was missed the final scores read 26-14.
