Falmouth II visited Wadebridge on Saturday in the Duchy League. In wet and difficult conditions both sides played an open running game of rugby that went right to the wire. Falmouth started the stronger and after a sustained period of pressure Kaden Cobb scored near the posts and the try was converted by Phil Morgan. Wadebridge came back strongly and their forwards put sustained pressure on the Falmouth defence from a series of drives that resulted in three first half tries to make the half time score 17-7 to the home side.
The weather conditions became more difficult as the match progressed and the pitch heavier but both teams continued to play attacking rugby. A fine individual try from Oscar Gay made the score 17-12 but as Falmouth pressed a breakdown in play allowed the Wadebridge centre to run in from halfway to make it 24 -12 with 20 minutes remaining.
The last quarter belonged to Falmouth and a second try by Oscar Gay brought them within a score of levelling the game but despite some strong running from both forwards and backs Wadebridge held firm and the final score was 24-17 to the home side.
Nevertheless this was a good performance from Falmouth with the back row of Alex Bullock, Kaden Cobb & Isaac Hayes putting in a very strong shift both in defence and attack. In addition the new half back combination of Bertie Duncan and Cameron Bullock is developing a good understanding that bodes well for the remaining fixtures.
